Love this a lot. I am still experimenting with my preferences on travel/holidays. The 5-week interrailing trip in 2023 was almost entirely work-free (I think I did two half days in Nice, a half day in Badajoz and a half day in Lisbon. And I remember loving those days a lot and really appreciating having the work as the filling in my walking and exploring sandwich. Other trips I have had far too much work with me and got grumpy that I didn’t get to do enough exploring. And then the one time I tried a week of doing nothing I was ill for two of the days and picked the wrong base and kind of missed the work.
But I absolutely relate to the not relaxing for the first few days and the final few, so the idea of a month in one base, without work, sounds very enticing. I am not sure if I can get away with another one that long until after our youngest goes off to uni. So maybe I should start saving now!
Loved reading this. I really like solo trips, but usually only take short ones. I'll be forty next year and I might try and see if I can take a longer one to mark the occasion. Thanks for the inspiration, Marloes!
I hope you can, Nienke! I did a few city trips when I was in my late 20's and gradually started to stay longer. I've really started to appreciate myself and my own company more after I first started to travel solo. I've gained more self worth thanks to it, so I highly recommend it.
Sometimes we’re so worried about the money, we forget the toll it takes on our health. I hope you’ll find a way to figure out not to have additional work and stress before you leave, that’s a tricky one. But love that you’re doing this and sharing how it’s done.
Me too. My goal is to not have to work extra beforehand and work extra after my holiday. I'll get there, it's a matter of time and implementing new strategies.
So important to keep trying until it works for you and not stop because it’s not what you want/need. Still working on that myself but getting closer to it every day.
Im taking 34 days! Last Time when I did 30 I lost 2 clients, but what I understood with that Is that they didnt value my craft, just my input

I'm happy you enjoyed it!

This is THE sign! I will do it! I am a big girl now! I want it but I am such a chicken, I am kinda afraid of traveling alone.
I love travelling alone. There are a few tips on how to start towards the bottom of the post :)
